CervéloS5

Aero road20272025 version ↗Disc brakesUCI legal

Cervélo's dedicated aero road bike, raced by Team Visma | Lease a Bike. The 2025 version keeps the V-shaped front end and Bayonet fork but has a deeper head tube and fork legs and a new one-piece HB19 bar and stem; Cervélo claims it is 6.3 W faster and 124 g lighter than its predecessor. It is designed around the Reserve 57|64 wheels, takes electronic groupsets only, and every complete build comes with a power meter.

Our verdict

Overall

out of 100, average of 7 categories

For racers who want one of the fastest bikes the pros ride, with deep Reserve wheels and a power meter on every build. A one-piece cockpit in 19 sizes with a free swap makes fit easier than most rivals. The trade-offs are electronic-only shifting, a proprietary fork, cockpit and seatpost, and prices near the top of the market.

Fit & adjustability

Seatpost type

Fit notes
HB19 uses Cervélo's 'Plus-Four' shape: the bar is 4 cm wider in the drops than at the hoods (e.g. 38/42 cm). Cervélo lists 19 HB19 sizes from 80 to 150 mm stem length in 36/40, 38/42 and 40/44 cm widths, and buyers can swap to another size once at no charge for the part through their retailer within 60 days. Stem spacers raise the bar 5 to 30 mm above the base position.

Aerodynamics

Manufacturer aero claims
6.3 W faster than the previous S5 (BikeRadar reports this at 50 km/h over ±15° yaw), and Cervélo says it is at least 5 W faster than competitors' bikes. The Reserve 57|64 wheels are claimed to be 3 W faster than the 52|63 at the same weight.
Testing method
Most of the gain is from the front end (deeper fork legs and head tube, one-piece cockpit); Cervélo says the asymmetric seat tube and matching asymmetric rear rim also contribute.

Travel, maintenance & warranty

Headset bearings
FSA IS2, 1-1/8 in top and 1-3/8 in bottom, 36° x 45° (Super Light bearings on the top builds)
Derailleur hanger
UDH (SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger); Cervélo Derailleur Hanger V2 in standard or Shimano Direct Mount versions
Maintenance
Every front caliper needs Cervélo's Front Brake Mounting Plate 004; the front rotor must be 160 mm, the rear 140 or 160 mm. The fork uses a tension-rod steerer system.
Proprietary parts
HB19 one-piece cockpit, Bayonet fork with tension rod, SP34 seatpost and clamp, aero thru-axles, front brake mounting plate
Frame warranty
Limited lifetime warranty on the frame for the original owner (frames bought from 1 Sept 2025, excluding paint and decals); forks, carbon bars, stems and seatposts also lifetime

Compare on the stack & reach chart

Good to know

  • Fit

Switching HB19 sizes changes reach by about 10 mm and stack by about 2 mm per stem-length step. The base position without spacers matches a 2018 S5 with a -6° stem; spacers add 5 to 30 mm.

    Source
  • Fit

Rider height ranges are read from Cervélo's S5 size chart (an 8 cm band per size from 150 to 200 cm). Fork offset is left out for sizes 56 to 61: the website geometry lists 43.5 mm while Cervélo's frame specification sheet gives 46.5 mm for sizes 54-61.

    Source
  • Compatibility

Maximum chainrings: 54/40 (44.5 mm chainline) or 56/43 (45 mm chainline) for 2x, and 68 teeth for 1x, each with 3 mm clearance. Tyres up to 34 mm measured width, keeping 4 mm clearance to the frame. The build kits list Shimano Di2 12-speed and SRAM eTap AXS, both 1x and 2x.

    Source
  • History

Launched in July 2025 after Jonas Vingegaard had already raced it through the Critérium du Dauphiné and at the Tour de France. It replaced the 2022 S5.

    Source
  • Versions

Compared with the previous S5, the fork legs and head tube are deeper, the split V-stem became the one-piece HB19 bar and stem, and the stock wheels moved from Reserve 52|63 to the new 57|64. Cervélo says the bike is 124 g lighter despite the larger tube profiles, thanks to a revised layup and hardware.

What warranty does the Cervélo S5 frame have?+

Limited lifetime warranty on the frame for the original owner (frames bought from 1 Sept 2025, excluding paint and decals); forks, carbon bars, stems and seatposts also lifetime

Is the Cervélo S5 aerodynamic?+

6.3 W faster than the previous S5 (BikeRadar reports this at 50 km/h over ±15° yaw), and Cervélo says it is at least 5 W faster than competitors' bikes. The Reserve 57|64 wheels are claimed to be 3 W faster than the 52|63 at the same weight. (Most of the gain is from the front end (deeper fork legs and head tube, one-piece cockpit); Cervélo says the asymmetric seat tube and matching asymmetric rear rim also contribute.)
