BMCTeammachine R 01
BMC's aero race bike, developed with Red Bull Advanced Technologies and raced by Tudor Pro Cycling. The frame's shapes came out of RBAT's CFD work: an ultra-wide 'Halo' fork that keeps the front wheel's turbulence away from the frame, a very deep bottom bracket area, deep horizontal tube profiles and integrated Aerocore bottle cages. BMC itself pitches it as a complete race bike rather than a pure aero bike, with the Teammachine SLR as the lighter climbing option. Most builds come with the one-piece ICS Carbon Aero Gen 2 cockpit; tyre clearance is 30 mm.

Our verdict
Overall
out of 100, average of 7 categories
A stiff, fast race bike shaped with Red Bull's F1 engineers, with a one-piece cockpit on most builds and a power meter on all but the FIVE. It's light for an aero frame, but tyre clearance stops at 30 mm, shifting must be electronic, and the press-fit BB, ICS cockpit and BMC hangers keep you tied to BMC parts.

Fit & adjustability
- Cockpit
- One-piece BMC ICS Carbon Aero Gen 2 bar and stem on the ONE to FOUR; the FIVE pairs BMC's ICS2 stem with an alloy bar
- Standard stem and bar possible
- No
- Seatpost type
- Teammachine R 01 carbon aero seatpost with 0 mm (47-51) or 10 mm (54-61) offset; an integrated race-number holder clamp is available
- Fit notes
- BMC's parts list has the ICS Carbon Aero Gen 2 in 80-140 mm stem lengths at 370/420 mm (hoods/drops), 90-120 mm at 390/440 mm and 100-120 mm at 410/460 mm, all with 81 mm reach and 135 mm drop. ICS2 stems (80-140 mm), RSM01 stems and the ICS2 Carbon EVO cockpit also fit, but the manual says the frame only takes ICS-type cockpits and stems. Frames ship with high and low ICS top cones plus 3x10 mm and 2x3 mm spacers.
Aerodynamics
- Manufacturer aero claims
- BMC calls it the fastest road bike it has made. At launch Escape Collective reported BMC's figures of 3.5% less drag than the Teammachine SLR and 1.9% less than the Timemachine Road in the wind tunnel at 45 km/h.
- Testing method
- Tube shapes from CFD simulations by Red Bull Advanced Technologies, refined by BMC's Impec Lab; the wide Halo fork and deep bottom bracket area are the main features
- Tube profile
- Deep horizontal profiles at the head tube, bottom bracket and seatstay junction, with a hinged, sloping top tube and stealth dropouts
Travel, maintenance & warranty
- Headset bearings
- BMC by FSA HS-B-13P (standard) or HS-B-27P (stainless) bearings with ICS2 top cones
- Derailleur hanger
- BMC Dropout No. 81 (classic SRAM/Shimano/Campagnolo) or No. 82 (Shimano direct mount); both come with the frameset
- Maintenance
- Front brake takes a 160 mm rotor only, via a Teammachine R specific adapter; rear 140 or 160 mm. No rack mounts; only light clip-on mudguards (SKS Speedrocker, RaceBlade) fit.
- Proprietary parts
- Seatpost and clamp, ICS cockpit or stem with top cones and spacers, headset bearings, thru-axles, derailleur hangers, front brake adapter, Aerocore bottle cages
- Frame warranty
- BMC's voluntary frame warranty; registering the bike within six months of purchase extends it to five years
- Sold via
- Through BMC retailers; the BMC site shows prices and dealer stock (the ONE is not sold online)

How the geometry rides
The Teammachine R 01 in size 54 against the middle size of 29 other bikes: tendencies from geometry, not a ride review (how to read this).
- Trail63 mm2.5″
shortestlonger than 91% of 29 bikeslongest
Longer trail than most: steering is steadier and less twitchy on the extensions.

Good to know
Aerodynamics
The Halo fork's wide-set legs move the front wheel's turbulent wake away from the frame to reduce flow separation, and the deep bottom bracket area narrows the gap to the rear wheel so the air stays attached to the rim. BMC says the integrated Aerocore cages make the bike faster with bottles fitted.
SourceFit
Geometry is from BMC's current product pages. BMC's 2023 launch document gives slightly different figures for two sizes: 606 mm stack on the 61 (608 now) and a 185 mm head tube on the 58 (184 now). Rider heights are BMC's own ranges, which overlap between sizes.
SourceCompatibility
Chainrings: 1x up to 48 teeth; 2x designed for 52/36 or 50/34, with a maximum of 56 teeth (Shimano) or 54 (SRAM) and a minimum of 50 (Shimano) or 46 (SRAM). Optimised for 28 mm tyres; minimum 23 mm, maximum 30 mm measured with 4 mm clearance.
SourceRacing
On the UCI list of approved framesets since 10 October 2023 (sizes 47 to 61).
SourceHistory
Launched in October 2023 as BMC's new race bike, sitting alongside the Teammachine SLR. BMC still documents the current bikes as 'Teammachine R Gen 1'.
SourceVersions
The model-year 2027 builds use the ICS Carbon Aero Gen 2 cockpit (370/420 or 390/440 mm, 81 mm reach, 12° flare); BMC's launch document described the original ICS Carbon Aero at 360/420 mm with 72.5 mm reach and 12.5° flare. Model-year 2026 builds are still listed in BMC's stores.
