CanyonSpeedmax CFR (5th gen)
Replaced by Canyon Speedmax CFR
The Speedmax CFR that preceded the July 2026 relaunch, and the bike on which Canyon's pros won the 2023 and 2024 Ironman world titles. It used a CFR-grade frame with Toray M40X fibres, developed with Swiss Side, with a deep fork that hides the front caliper, fully internal routing, an internal hydration bladder, a top-tube bento box and a hidden tool box. The cockpit was a conventional-looking flat basebar with mono extensions and a monospacer for height adjustment. The XS size rode on 650b wheels.

Our verdict
Overall
out of 100, average of 7 categories
On the used market, a proven long-course race bike with a CFR-grade frame, an internal bladder, a bento box and hidden tool storage, and top-tier builds with power meters. It is heavier than its replacement and relies on Canyon-specific cockpit, fork and seatpost parts, so factor in spares. The 650b XS suits smaller riders.

Good to know
Design
The XS size uses 650b wheels, a 72 degree head angle, 410 mm chainstays and a 52 mm bottom bracket offset; the L has a slightly slacker 80.37 degree seat angle than the other sizes.
SourceRacing
Canyon riders won both 2024 Ironman world titles on this bike: Laura Philipp in Nice and Patrick Lange in Kona, where Sam Laidlow set a 3:57:22 bike split, the first under four hours on the Kona course.
SourceHistory
Canyon replaced this bike with the sixth-generation Speedmax CFR in July 2026. Canyon's figures put the new CFR frame at 1,360 g against 1,573 g for this one; the new bike also dropped the top-tube storage box and the 650b XS size and moved from a 1 1/4 in to a 1 1/8 in steerer.
SourceHistory
Triathlon Magazine's April 2021 review quoted a 1,480 g frame for the CFR versus 1,560 g for the CF SLX, a 9.14 kg complete bike, and 110 mm of height and 132 mm of length adjustment from the monospacer cockpit.
SourceVersions
In December 2024 Canyon added US-only Speedmax CFR and CF SLX versions with HED Vanquish wheels, inspired by long-time HED rider Lionel Sanders.
