6 variants by frame grade and generation and discipline version. Compare them part by part below.

Generations

What changed from one generation to the next. Useful when you're weighing a used bike against a new one.

  1. 2026-07

    Speedmax (6th generation)

    CFR (6th gen)CF SLX (6th gen)

    • Canyon claims the frame is 250 g lighter and complete bikes up to 500 g lighter than the previous generation
    • AeroShield closed cockpit adjustable for width, length and grip angle, plus a modular AeroModule fuel box between the forearms
    • Internal frame bladder (650-850 ml) and Splitter Plate Pro seatpost for bottles; over 3.5 litres of total fluid capacity
    • Sizes start at S and all sizes use 700c wheels; the 650b XS size is dropped
    • Reworked geometry for stability at speed and lower standover
    Source
  2. 2021-05

    Speedmax CFR TT Disc

    CFR TT

    • UCI-legal time-trial version of the disc-brake Speedmax with its own UCI-compliant tube shapes
    • Disc brakes only; Canyon claims 2.7 W less drag than the rim-brake Speedmax CF SLX TT it replaced
    • No triathlon storage or hydration features
    • 1,030 g frame (size M) at launch; armrests adjustable with spacers
    Source
  3. 2020-11

Speedmax Disc (CF, CF SLX, CFR)

    CF (5th gen)CFR (5th gen)CF SLX (5th gen)

    • Disc brakes only; the previous Speedmax used rim brakes
    • Not UCI legal: deeper tube profiles aimed at triathlon
    • CFR and CF SLX frames get integrated storage for tools, food and fluids; the CF uses add-on boxes on the top tube and above the bottom bracket
    • New mono-riser cockpit with 0-110 mm of height adjustment
    • Canyon claims the CFR is 9-10 W faster with a rider at 45 km/h than the previous CF SLX
    Source
  4. 2015-10

    Speedmax CF SLX

    • Front brake moved from behind the fork crown to the front of it; rear brake stays under the bottom bracket
    • Integrated front hydration developed with Profile Design, a Gear Box for spares between top and down tube and a clip-on Energy Source nutrition box
    • Revised head angle for high-speed stability; long chainstays and wheelbase carried over
    • UCI legal once the bottle and storage fairings are removed, with no frame changes
    Source
  5. 2012

    Speedmax CF (Evo)

    • Wind-tunnel-shaped tubes with integrated linear-pull brakes front and rear
    • Steerer runs outside the head tube, in front of it
    • Chainstays 25-30 mm longer than on the previous Speedmax, with a correspondingly longer front centre

Aerodynamics
Manufacturer aero claims—Canyon says the frame keeps the previous generation's aerodynamics; AeroShield Pro is claimed to save a further 3 W and the AeroModule up to 7 W, both at 45 km/h.——Developed with Swiss Side using CFD and validated in the wind tunnel; Triathlon Magazine reported the CFR and CF SLX as 9-12 W faster than the previous Speedmax.Canyon claimed at launch that the disc-brake frame saves 2.7 W over the rim-brake Speedmax CF SLX TT it replaced; the current product page quotes 456 CFD tests and 97 validation runs.
Testing method—Canyon reports building 12 frame prototypes, only one of which was faster (0.5-1 W), and it was rejected as too heavy (per Triathlete).———CFD with Swiss Side, validated in the wind tunnel
