Time trial2023Disc brakesUCI legal

Scott's UCI-legal time trial bike, launched in May 2023 after a year of racing with Team DSM. It replaced the Plasma 5 as Scott's TT frame and is a different frame from the triathlon-only Plasma 6 that the Plasma RC uses. It has deep truncated-aerofoil tubes, dropped seatstays, an aero seatpost and fully internal cabling, and pairs it all with the Syncros Creston iC TT integrated cockpit, which Scott calls the most adjustable integrated TT cockpit available. It is sold only as an HMX frameset with that cockpit, in three sizes.

Our verdict

No overall score: there's no complete-bike price to rate

A pure UCI time-trial frameset for riders chasing short, fast efforts, with a highly adjustable integrated cockpit and a sizeable claimed gain over the old Plasma. It has no hydration or storage and a low front end, so long-course triathletes are better served by the Plasma RC, and the cockpit, headset and seatpost are all proprietary.

Aerodynamics

Scott says it is the fastest bike it has made: 33 seconds quicker over a 40 km time trial than the previous Plasma at the same power, with lower drag at 55 km/h.
Testing method
CFD with aero consultants Drag2Zero to choose tube shapes, then wind tunnel testing of a modular prototype (Scott, via BikeRadar)
Tube profile
Deep truncated aerofoil tubes, dropped seatstays and an aero seatpost, within UCI rules

Travel, maintenance & warranty

Travel & packing
Scott routes the cables through a slotted headset, which it says lets you take off the fork and cockpit for flying without disconnecting the cables. The same design allows a smaller upper headset bearing.

Good to know

  • Design

Scott says the frame is 12% lighter than its predecessor. A shorter fork offset adds about 5.2 mm of trail for more stability at speed.

    Source
  • Racing

Slowtwitch notes that its low stack and lack of a front hydration solution make it less suited to Ironman racing, and points to the Plasma 6 as the closer fit for long-course triathlon.

    Source
  • History

The bike was developed with Team DSM and first spotted at the 2022 Giro d'Italia, nearly a year before its May 2023 launch. It replaced the Plasma 5 as Scott's UCI time trial frame.

    Source
  • Versions

The Plasma RC TT is its own UCI-legal frameset, not a UCI version of the Plasma 6 triathlon frame used by the Plasma RC. Scott has not said the two share geometry, so none is copied across.
