VentumOne Disc

Triathlon20222nd generation (disc brake)Disc brakesNot UCI legal

The Ventum One Disc is Ventum's long-course triathlon bike. It keeps the brand's frame layout with no conventional down tube and adds disc brakes, a removable reservoir inside the frame and an adjustable monoriser cockpit. Ventum sells it direct to consumers in two complete builds.

Our verdict

Overall

out of 100, average of 7 categories

A direct-sales Ironman bike for riders who value a large, removable in-frame reservoir, stable handling and easy shipping over the lowest weight. Both builds come with top-tier groupsets and deep Zipp wheels but no power meter, and the cockpit is cramped to work on, with a proprietary bar, reservoir and seatpost.

How the geometry rides

The One Disc in size M against the middle size of 42 other bikes: tendencies from geometry, not a ride review (how to read this).

  • Wheelbase970 mm38.2″

shortestlonger than 1% of 42 bikeslongest

Short wheelbase: tends to feel more agile in corners and less planted on long straights.

  • Front centre584 mm23″

shortestlonger than 16% of 29 bikeslongest

Short front centre: more weight on the front wheel, which can make the front feel lighter to steer.

Short chainstays: a compact, responsive rear end.

Good to know

  • Design

Slowtwitch called it the most stable-handling triathlon bike its reviewer had ridden. Its SRAM Force AXS test bike weighed 23 lb 9.5 oz with pedals.

    Source
  • Fit

Pad height is set by sliding the monoriser mast in its clamp, and a separate pair of bolts sets the mast tilt. Both are clamped at 7 Nm.

    Source
  • Integration

The reservoir is 1.4 L on sizes S to XL and 1.2 L on XS, because it has to fit the smaller frame. It comes out for cleaning, and there is a storage compartment beneath it.

    Source
  • Compatibility

Ventum gives two tire clearance figures. The spec table on both build pages says 700x30c, but the Dura-Ace page's bullet points and Ventum's support FAQ say 28 mm. The 28 mm figure is used here. Slowtwitch's review also says up to 28 mm.

    Source
  • Travel

Slowtwitch found the bike could be packed into an ordinary bike box without disconnecting the hydraulic brake lines.

    Source
  • Maintenance

Front-end routing is tight. The manual says to run the Di2 or eTap wires before the hydraulic hoses and to guide the wires to either side of the mast so they are not pinched when it is inserted. Slowtwitch noted a mix of 3, 4 and 5 mm bolt heads across the bike.

    Source
  • History

The original Ventum One was a rim-brake bike first reviewed in 2015. It already had no conventional down tube and carried a plastic fluid tank of about 40 oz that completed the top tube shape.

    Source
  • Versions

The One Disc keeps the original's frame layout and hydration concept and adds hydraulic disc brakes, internal routing and a new, more adjustable front end. It was reviewed as a new model in August 2022.
